For many years I've been dreaming of being able to combine two of my passions on a vacation trip: Hiking and wine! We have now finally implemented this idea and got to know one of the most famous Italian wine regions on a long-distance hike: the Langhe region in Piedmont. The Barolo and Barbaresco are two of Italy's most renowned wines.
The long-distance hike leads in six stages from Asti to Alba through the lovely hilly landscape of the Langhe, past vineyards and hazelnut plantations. As befits a real wine hike, we preferred to spend the night at wineries and discovered many recommendable accommodations.

But the area is not only known for its wine - the roots of the slow food movement also lie in Piedmont. The gastronomic offer on this long-distance hike is accordingly attractive. You should definitely try tajarin at least once on the way - these are very finely cut egg noodles that are typically served with freshly grated truffle.
Our long-distance hike in Piedmont is designed as a real pleasure hike, ie the stages are mostly cut so that there is enough time for the amenities of this region: e.g. a good lunch in the restaurant or a wine tasting in the afternoon. Only the first two stages are a bit more strenuous due to their length.
The terrain on this hike is unproblematic and requires neither a head for heights nor scrambling: most of the hiking is on country lanes or directly in the vineyard. In some places we had to switch to asphalt side streets due to a lack of alternatives.
