Coastal hike Malta-Gozo: stage overview

Long Distance Hiking Malta Gozo Section 4 27

The long-distance hike runs roughly equally in Malta and Gozo and is divided into 6 stages. In total, at least 8, but better between 10 and 14 days should be planned for the stay in Malta and Gozo:

  • 1 day of arrival
  • 6 hiking days
  • 1 day sightseeing Victoria (island capital Gozo)
  • 1 to 3 days Valletta (island capital Malta).
  • further day hikes in Malta, e.g. Hike along the Victoria Lines

If you don't feel like a long-distance hike, you can cover the entire long-distance hike in sections from a fixed holiday location (one accommodation per island). Information on this at Malta: walking holiday in the World Heritage City.

    Hello Frank,
    your tour sounds great :)
I would like to do this in mid/late November, would you recommend that? And I would be traveling alone as a woman and shouldn't be a problem in Malta, right?
Thank you very much and best regards

      Hello Toni,
since I myself have been to Malta and Gozo twice in January/February and am a big fan of hiking in the off-season, I would recommend November equally. You have to expect a few rainy days, but on dry days the temperatures are ideal for hiking. In November you should therefore plan 2-3 extra days if the weather is rainy and you have to take a break. You can also book accommodation spontaneously in November, that shouldn't be a problem.
From my point of view, nothing speaks against hiking alone or alone as a woman.
      Regards
      Frank

    Dear Frank
I'm planning to do the Malta-Gozo coastal hike in August this year. However, since I'm rather spontaneous and you've already hiked the route, I wanted to ask you if there are many inexpensive places to stay along the way? Is it possible to set off without making a reservation or not?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
    Sunny greetings
    Fabienne

      Hello Fabienne,
I have done the hike on Malta and Gozo twice so far - both times in the winter months in January/February. I wouldn't recommend August as a month to travel or hike because of the temperatures. August is also high season on Malta and Gozo - so it's more expensive and harder to find anything spontaneous. If you like to travel spontaneously, I would strongly recommend the low season on Malta and Gozo :-) Prices are also low then - we have sometimes stayed in 50-star hotels for under €4 in winter.
Even though my answer may disappoint you a little, I hope it helps you with your planning!
      Regards
      Frank

    Hi Frank

We would like to do your hike over Christmas/New Year. Did you go with a tent or did you only stay in hotels? Do you know what it's like to camp on Malta/Gozo?

    Kind regards
    aline
