Directions
After the picnic supply in the U-Express supermarket at the start of the stage for the day has been taken care of, the second stage of our long-distance hike is now off to the mountains. The day begins with an ascent of the old part of Saint-Jeannet. This effort is rewarded with a great view in the morning sun: Among other things, the Cap d'Antibes and the Esterel Mountains are clearly recognizable.
From now on the GR51 long-distance hiking trail continues for a few kilometers. It is no stranger to us: we already got to know another section of the GR51 on a long-distance hiking tour near Marseille (Link: Coastal walk Marseille). From Saint-Jeannet, the GR51 leads us in an arc around the local mountain Baou de Saint-Jeannet. Alternatively, a detour via this rock peak is also possible (take one of the marked branches to the left, then from the summit on the back of the mountain back to the GR51; detour of approx. 1,5 km and an additional 50 meters in altitude).
The next striking point on stage 2 is an abandoned stone building that is visible from afar and from which, once you have arrived, you can also enjoy a wonderful view. A perfect place for a little rest. From here, the GR51 leads north into the narrowing valley - especially in autumn, the colorful palette of nature reveals itself most beautifully.
Approximately 9 km from the starting point of the stage, the GR51 turns left, but we leave the GR51 at this point and continue straight. We meet a gravel track, follow it for about 3 km and gain a lot of vertical meters in several switchbacks. Once at the top, we turn left onto a dirt road before the road that runs approx. 250 m away. On forest, meadow and hiking trails we get to Coursegoule, our hiking destination today.
Coursegoule is a small, southern French mountain village and offers an extremely charming, highly recommended place to stay (see Accommodation in Coursegoule).
Catering on the go
Stage 2 leads completely through nature. There are no refreshments on the way. It is therefore necessary to have provisions / picnics in the supermarket at the starting point of the stage, for example.
