The former fishing village of Carvoeiro has been one of the tourist centers in the Algarve for many years. Due to strict building regulations, the architectural sins are kept within strong limits, so that almost consistently a maximum of 2-story hotels and apartment houses can be found.
One of these two-story complexes is the Pestana Palm Gardens - an apartment complex on a rocky plateau directly on the coastal hiking trail (Link: Palm Gardens Tab).
In my opinion, the furnishings in the country-house style apartments make them look a bit older than they really are: everything is very clean and well-kept, almost new. Since the apartments at Pestana Palm Gardens with their kitchenettes are designed for longer stays, breakfast is usually not included in the room rate. In the restaurant of the 4-star resort you can have breakfast on request, but in the off-season mostly not as a buffet, but to order - the rolls are fresh from the oven and the portions are generous! For hikers who are out in the off-season, I think Pestana Palm Gardens is a great and affordable choice!
