Accommodation in Sannat

Gozo Overnight at The Garden Gate BB Sannat 2

Sannat (Gozo) Hotels

Sannat is a small place in the south of the island of Gozo only a few hundred meters from the highest cliffs on the island. Only recently the "Garden Gate B&B" opened there, a small guesthouse with two rooms in a centuries-old building, equipped with a pool and several terraces (Link: The Garden Gate). A couple looks after the guests very lovingly and there is an excellent breakfast, depending on the weather, either in the kitchen or on the terrace.

If the "Garden Gate" is fully booked: there is a comparable accommodation in Munxar (approx. 2 km away, link: Arkati Literary B&B). In Sannat itself there is also the Hotel Ta 'Cenc, which is significantly more expensive (5-star, link: Hotel Ta 'Cenc).

    Hi there,
We are traveling from Tasmania in Australia and doing several walks in Europe.
This one looks great in Malta/Gozo.
It would be in June but we can handle hot walking
Would it be relatively safe to find accommodation as we go?
We enjoy home style guesthouses or reasonably priced hotels.
    Thank you and kind regards,
    Pete and Kim Woodhouse

      Hello Pete and Kim,
I'm impressed - Tasmania is one of my dream travel destinations :-) In fact, I wouldn't necessarily recommend Malta/Gozo in June - partly because of the temperatures and also because the summer travel season is already starting. I've been there twice so far - both times in the absolute off-season and logically it was no problem to get accommodation quite spontaneously. Things will definitely be different in June. And there are also some places with very few available accommodations (Sannat is one of them). Due to the compact size of the two islands, you can always take a taxi or bus to the next town if necessary, but in my opinion that spoils the hiking experience a bit. If you don't mind that and you want to travel to the end points of the stages several times by bus / ridesharing / taxi, then it is definitely doable. See also the following considerations for hiking with fixed accommodation as a fallback plan: https://www.wanderndeluxe.de/malta-wanderurlaub-in-der-weltkulturerbe-stadt/.
Best wishes and have fun on your hiking holiday in Europe!
      Frank
