Hotels in and around Valletta

Valletta is the capital of the Republic of Malta and is surrounded by bastions and city walls on a peninsula. The Valletta metropolitan area has a total of over 300.000 inhabitants, but the city of Valletta itself actually only comprises the historic old town and is therefore less than 1 square kilometer in size (only approx. 6.000 inhabitants).

So if you want to stay overnight in Valletta yourself, you will inevitably find a relatively short supply, more choice and cheaper prices are available in the places around Valletta or on the opposite peninsulas (up to approx. 20 minutes by bus). On my trip I tried both and therefore two different recommendations:

Bathroom in the "Pjazza Merkanti Suites"

Hotels in Valletta: The boutique hotel "Pjazza Merkanti Suites", newly opened in 2019, is centrally located opposite the "Valletta Food Market", a market hall with a supermarket, restaurants and cafés - the hotel has also outsourced breakfast there (Link: Pjazza Merkanti Suites). The rooms and bathrooms are chic and of high quality, but the amount of the deposit was somewhat irritating at check-in: For security reasons, € 300 was taken from the credit card, which was credited again when checking out.

Hotel in Sliema: I was really impressed by the "Mr. Todd Hotel" in Sliema: The hotel is also brand new and the style is a very successful mix of casual style and cosiness. In addition, a very good price-performance ratio and a breakfast buffet with good coffee. Link (Mr Todd Hotel). The old town of Valletta is easily accessible from here in two ways: either by bus or by ferry (operation depends on the weather, see: www.vallettaferryservices.com).
