Arriving by train, car or plane
By train: Almost every place on the Ligurian coast can be reached by train, this also applies to every single one of the "Cinque Terre". The best way to get to the starting point of the long-distance hike in Camogli is therefore by train. The official name of the station there is "Camogli-S.Fruttuoso". Depending on the place of departure, the journey is usually connected with a change in Genoa (35 minutes away).
By plane (and then by train): The nearest airport is also in Genoa. Other nearby airports are Pisa and Milan (both 2-3 hours away by train).
By car: I am currently not aware of any guarded (permanent) parking spaces in Camogli or the immediate vicinity. If you have better information, please contact me! If you want to be on the safe side, you should park your car at the end of the hiking route in La Spezia. There are several parking garages there, for example Europa Park - Piazza Europa La Spezia (approx. € 15 per day).
Note on the return journey: The long-distance hike ends in Porto Venere. From there it is only a short bus ride to the nearby "La Spezia" (see Stage 6). The station "La Spezia Centrale" is very well connected to the Italian rail network, for example with the regional train back to Genoa in about 1:30 hours.

Good morning Frank,
We've been studying your hiking website for some time now…
In April we would like to do either the Amalfi Coast hike (4 stages) or the Cinque Terre coastal hiking trail (also 4 stages).
What else could you recommend to us two girls with good basic fitness?
Which hike is more difficult?
Thanks in advance for the tips!

Hello Sabine,
The hike in the Cinque Terre does indeed have a bit more elevation gain and is therefore, in my opinion, somewhat more strenuous, and the hiking days are a bit longer. However, it also depends on which stages you choose for your four days. In both cases, the first stage is the most strenuous…
So, my inclination is towards the Amalfi Coast and stages 2 to 5 :-)
Best regards and have fun hiking!
Frank

What do you think, could stages 3, 4 and 5 possibly be combined into two longer stages?
