Bus routes in Malta and Gozo
Malta has a fairly well developed bus network - covering the entire island. Almost every village in Malta is served by at least one bus line that connects the town with the capital Valletta. Even in remote corners, the buses run at least once an hour until around 21:00 p.m.
This also applies to Gozo on a somewhat smaller scale.
An overview of all bus routes as of September 2020 can be downloaded (unofficially) here: https://malta.busatlas.uk/maps/MPT_map_2020.jpgWhile this overview may be somewhat outdated, it provides a pretty good overview of which places are served by buses. Unfortunately, the map overview was removed from the official website as part of an update; currently, only a list of all bus routes is available: https://www.publictransport.com.mt/routes-timetables-view-all-routes/.
Bolt - the alternative to Taxi, Uber and Co
When it comes to the "newer" driving and delivery services in Malta, the two providers "Bolt" and "Wolt" are ahead: Bolt offers both taxi service and food delivery in various apps, while "Wolt" specializes in food deliveries. For hikers in Malta who want to be independent of the bus network and bus timetables, it is worth installing the Bolt Taxi app on your smartphone in good time. Ferry connection between Malta and Gozo
The ferries between Gozo and Malta run at high frequency - usually every 45 minutes during the day - and well into the night. Tickets for the ferry cost around € 5 (there and back). Attention: The round trip tickets are checked and validated when entering Gozo, i.e. only on the return journey. Information on departure times at www.gozochannel.com
