Directions

Stage 2 of the long-distance hike leads from Olhos de Água via Albufeira to Praia dos Salgados beach. The hiking route is beautiful: the rocky Algarve is here in all its glory. The 20 km hike leads past countless bays framed by spectacular rock formations.

You alternately hike either directly on the sandy beach or on small hiking trails over the rocky cliffs. There are two exceptions to this rule:

  • Coastal hike Algarve stage 2 04 Praia Maria Luisa walk on the beach at low tide At Praia Maria Luísa beach (see marking on the map above), the route depends on the tide: At low tide you can walk over a few stones along the beach as shown on the map (see picture), at high tide a detour above is recommended around: back to the last beach bar, up to the main road and back to the beach via Rua dos Pingalhetes.
  • Circumnavigation of the Marina de Albufeira: Shortly before the beach elevator of Albufeira, which is hard to miss, the hiking path leads in small serpentines up to the street, which then leads down to the harbor basin. After circling the harbor basin and making a small climb, the path turns back into nature.

The end point of the hike is at Praia dos Salgados on the edge of the Salgados lagoon. Numerous hotels and apartment complexes are located a few hundred meters from the beach.
