The sixth and last stage is my personal highlight of this long-distance hike: After a strenuous ascent, you have left the rather touristy hustle and bustle of Riomaggiore and the Cinque Terre and can enjoy the landscape in peace again for yourself.
After a lunch break in the forest kiosk (waypoint 4) or in Campiglia (waypoint 6 and 7), the second half of the hike is relaxed downhill with a wonderful view of the promontory and the picturesque church of Porto Venere (together with the Cinque Terre also a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Porto Venere is particularly beautiful in the evening hours, so it is worthwhile to stay overnight at the destination of the hike at least once and not to start the return journey straight away. The return journey from Porto Venere always takes place via La Spezia, from where there are train connections in all conceivable directions. There is a bus connection between Porto Venere and La Spezia, the bus stop is in front of the Grand Hotel Porto Venere (waypoint 11). A ticket machine is a bit hidden inside the natural stone-clad passage. For the journey to La Spezia, tariff zone 03 should be selected (€ 2,50 as of 2020).
