Overnight in Asti 01

Accommodation in Asti

Asti is the starting point of our long-distance hike and thus also our first overnight stop. We stayed at the Hotel Lis, located not far from the train station and the old town (link: Hotel Lis). We really enjoyed the extensive breakfast there. However, the Hotel Lis is comparatively expensive. You can stay much more cheaply in Asti, for example, at the guesthouse La Fabbrica dell'Oro on the edge of the old town (link: La Fabbrica dell'Oro).

Accommodation in Costiglione d'Asti

On a scenic hill just outside Costiglione d'Asti lies the beautiful "Cascina San Michele" winery with six guest rooms (link: Cascina San Michele). The spacious panoramic terrace is a wonderful place to relax after a strenuous day of hiking. The view of the rolling hills of Piedmont is magnificent. Equally impressive is the view from a somewhat hidden, second terrace on the top floor of the winery: On clear days, the Alps are visible from here. Cuisine: Hot meals are served at Cascina San...

Accommodation in Barbaresco

The town of Barbaresco sits perched on a hill above the Tanaro Valley and is worth a visit for its "Torre di Barbaresco" lookout tower alone. The Barbaresco area is home to the red wines of the same name, which is why Barbaresco is home to numerous wine shops, wine bars, wineries, and several restaurants with extensive wine lists. On our hike through Piedmont, we stayed in Barbaresco at the "Casa Boffa," a local winemaker who runs a modern and friendly bed and breakfast in the historic center of Barbaresco (link:...

Accommodation in Treiso

Treiso is a small town perched on one of the many hills in the Langhe wine-growing region. There are several bed and breakfasts in the town, such as the Domus Langhe B&B and the Villa Incanto (link: Domus Langhe, Villa Incanto). There are also several restaurants and bars in the town. The Trattoria Risorgimento, where we stopped for lunch, is highly recommended. However, since we absolutely wanted to stay at another winery, we chose the one located about 3 km beyond Treiso...

Accommodation in Diano d'Alba

Just outside Diano d'Alba – surrounded by its own vineyards and enjoying a magnificent view – lies the agriturismo "Il Cortile" (link: Agriturismo Il Cortile). Many of the rooms have a small balcony overlooking the garden and vineyards. The real highlight, however, is the cuisine: Those staying at "Il Cortile" should definitely plan dinner at the in-house osteria. The food there is excellent, and the ambiance is stylish yet cozy. The osteria serves...

Accommodation in La Morra

La Morra lies in the heart of the Barolo-growing region, on the highest hill in the surrounding area. Perhaps the town's greatest highlight – aside from the wine – is the "Belvedere di La Morra" viewpoint. From here, the Barolo region lies practically at your feet: the town of Barolo, which gives its name to the wine, lies almost 200 meters below. Unfortunately, we didn't spend the night in La Morra on our hike, but rather between Barolo and Monforte d'Alba, which, in retrospect, didn't turn out to be a good option for the hiking route...

Accommodation in Alba

At the end of the hike, we reach Alba, a charming little town with a spruced-up center and numerous restaurants and cafés. Unfortunately, we didn't stay overnight in Alba on our hike, but continued on directly. However, it's certainly more relaxing to spend a night in Alba at the end, for example, at "Voglia di Vino," a combination wine shop, restaurant, and guesthouse right in the old town (link: Voglia di Vino). However, expect a large influx of visitors to Alba in October. Then...
