Portugal: Rota Vicentina (fishing path)

The "Rota Vicentina" long-distance hiking trail

The Rota Vicentina - and especially the fishing path - has already been recommended to us by many other hikers and is now at the top of our personal hiking holiday wish list!

The long-distance hiking trail "Rota Vicentia" in the southwest of Portugal actually consists of two different, parallel hiking trails:

  1. The fishing path ("Trilho dos Pescadores") starts at "Porto Covo" and runs directly on the Atlantic coast.
  2. The historical path ("Caminho Histórico"), on the other hand, begins in "Santiago do Cacém" and runs mostly in the hinterland.

In the last third, the two long-distance hiking trails intersect several times and then end together at "Cabo de São Vicente", the cape at "Sagres", the southwestern city of Portugal.

However, whoever speaks of the "Rota Vicentina" usually means the much more popular fishing path: The largely undeveloped Atlantic coast in the southwestern tip of Portugal has a very special charm for hikers. There are many small guest houses and hotels along the route, and large hotel complexes are rarely found (in contrast to the nearby Algarve, the most popular coastal region in Portugal).

We have put together some information about the "Rota Vicentina" below - this relates only to the fishing path.

Open October open from Porto Covo near Lagos. Het was for me de tweede keer maar wat is het daar mooi en wat a geweldige route! Veel los zand waar je doorheen moet maar dat is het zeker wel waard. (I'll say that there are a lot of people with overly nice things that will happen in a nice place. Slim!) It's nice to see that you can sit and enjoy everything.
The route is perfect as indicated by the route without the avenue loop and the altiid fijn om die ook op gps bij me te hebben. Ik mis nl. wel eens een aanwijzing than ik van de omgeving aan het riveted ben! He zijn voldoende hostels in different price classes with te overnight stays. Van Odeceixe to Carrapateira loop je nauwelijks langs de kust and heb ik ervoor gekozen om met de plaatselijke bus te irritating. (see google maps)
Mensen van over de hele wereld and van all leeftijden lopen de route maar happy heb je meestal het idea dat jij de enige bent. Whenever you loop along the coast, you can't miss the Rota Vicentina.
I was flown to Lisbon with the Rota Express (long aftandbus) to Porto Covo and talked about the trip to Lagos Faro om van daaruit terug te fly.
