The two islands of Malta and Gozo are one of my top recommendations for enthusiastic long-distance hikers (see: Coastal walk Malta / Gozo). But it doesn't always have to be a long-distance hike - Malta and Gozo are also ideal for a hiking holiday with permanent accommodation and varied day trips. Since both islands are relatively small and there are very good bus connections to all corners, almost all stages of the long-distance hike can also be hiked in sections. The two island capitals Valletta (Malta Island) and Victoria (Gozo Island) are suitable as starting points. These are each the main hub of local public transport (see also: Malta and Gozo: public transport).

The first three stages of the long-distance hike and the island crossing along the historic fortification "Victoria Lines" are easily accessible by bus from Valletta.
